Sally Hemings was an enslaved woman of mixed race owned by Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Sometimes referred to as Thomas Jefferson’s mistress, she was between ages 12-14 while he was in his 40s when he began raping her. Hemings bore Jefferson 6 to 8 children. She was also the half-sister of Jefferson’s deceased wife, Martha, sharing the same father, John Wayles, a Virginia planter. She was kept locked in the basement by Jefferson. Her children, believed to be fathered by Jefferson, were given special treatment and, as adults, were granted unofficial freedom. Hemings however, was not. Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, was a rapist & a pedophile.
