“Mary Turner” — On May 19, 1918, eight month pregnant Mary Turner was tortured & lynched. Her crime: publicly denouncing her husband’s unjustified lynching the day before. The all white mob hung her from a tree, doused her in gasoline, and burned her clothes off. Still alive, the mob took a butcher knife and cut the unborn child from her abdomen. The crying baby fell to the floor and was soon stomped to death by the mob. Mrs. Turner was then riddled with over 100 bullets, finally ending her suffering.
